Lightning Baccarat was released in 2020 by Evolution Gaming, building on the developer’s award-winning “Lightning” range of live dealer games that also includes Lightning Roulette and XXXtreme Lightning Roulette.
The game follows the standard rules of baccarat, but also features a special “Lightning Round” which randomly selects Lightning Cards. These cards are then awarded multipliers of 2x to 8x.
The more Lightning Cards in a winning hand, the more the multipliers increase, resulting in a potential top payout of 512x on a player or banker bet, and 262,144x on a tie bet.

Learning how to play Lightning Baccarat isn’t much different to learning how to play classic baccarat, despite the addition of the Lightning Cards. Check out our simple step-by-step guide below:
Place a bet on the player, banker, or tie, and pay the obligatory 20% Lightning Fee on your stake. You can also place a Banker Pair or Player Pair side bet.
After the betting time has ended, the Lightning Round will start. Here, one to five Lightning Cards are randomly selected and assigned a multiplier value.
Two cards are drawn for each hand. Aces are worth one point, two to nine hold their face value, and 10 to King are worth zero points. If a total is more than 10 points, you use the second digit only, e.g., a hand of eight and five totals 13 points, so this hand would be worth three points.
If a hand is worth fewer than five points, a third card is dealt (unless the other hand equals eight or nine, as this is an automatic win).
As with standard baccarat, the hand holding a value closest to nine wins.
Winning bets are paid out and the round ends.
As you can see, even though Lightning Cards significantly affect the potential value of wins, the actual gameplay is very similar to other versions of live baccarat. Just place your bets and hope you win big with a multiplier. Of course, you also need to consider the Lightning Fee.
The only other thing you might need to get used to is paying attention to the dealer, to find out when you can and can’t place any additional bets. We’ll touch more on Lightning Baccarat strategy, features, and payouts below.
As we’ve mentioned above, the addition of Lightning Cards is the key difference between Lightning Baccarat and standard live baccarat games. But how exactly do they work? Below we’ll cover what these multipliers do, as well as their potential to stack for massive wins.
At the beginning of each hand of Lightning Baccarat, after all bets have been placed, between one and five cards from the deck are allocated as Lightning Cards at random.
These cards are granted multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 8x at random, and their appearance in a winning hand will multiply your win by that amount. These multipliers are also capable of stacking to generate multipliers of up to 262,144x on a tie bet, and 512x on a Player or Banker bet.
Along with the Lightning Round, the other notable feature in Lightning Baccarat is side bets. You can also make side bets on the Player Pair and Banker Pair, which pay out if either you (the player) or the banker has two cards of the same value respectively.
With an overall RTP (return to player) of 98.76%, Lightning Baccarat’s RTP is marginally lower than the RTP for standard baccarat (98.94%). This means that theoretically you can expect to win ₹98.76 for every ₹100 you wager, instead of ₹98.94 as in standard baccarat. Of course, this is only a statistical average.
In practice, you’re highly unlikely to notice this difference and more likely to feel the impact of the 20% Lightning Fee.
Still, the inclusion of Lightning Cards makes up for that extra cost. You can find more information about Lightning Baccarat payouts below:
Bet | Lightning Baccarat payout | Standard baccarat payout |

If you’re hoping to employ a Lightning Baccarat strategy, check out these quick tips:
Don’t neglect the tie bet. While it has a higher house edge, the tie bet also gives you a chance of scoring a 262,144x multiplier. For player and banker bets, that figure tops out at 512x.
Place a banker or player bet if you’re trying to prolong your playing session, since these bets have a higher return to player (RTP) value.
Consider trying out betting systems like the Fibonacci or D’Alembert and Fibonacci to Paroli, but remember that no system can guarantee success in the long term.
Try not to worry too much about Lightning Cards, as they are allocated after bets have been placed (and there’s no way to accurately predict a Lightning Baccarat pattern in advance).
Remember the Lightning Fee will add 20% of the cost of your total bet every time you play, so be sure to factor it in when you’re managing your bankroll and stake amount.
Lightning Baccarat has a minimum bet of ₹100. This is slightly higher compared to other live dealer games like Lightning Roulette, which has a minimum bet of just ₹30. However, this minimum bet amount is pretty standard for live baccarat games.
As for the maximum bet, this figure can vary quite a bit depending on the Lightning Baccarat casino you choose. Theoretically, the game has a max bet of ₹50,000, but many sites implement lower maximums to reduce the risk of exceptionally high payouts.
Regardless, the game has plenty to offer to both high rollers and those with a smaller bankroll.
Lightning Baccarat was released by Evolution Gaming in 2020. Evolution Gaming has been producing live dealer games for close to two decades and power the live dealer section of many of the most popular online casinos.
Evolution quickly followed up the game with its next iteration, XXXtreme Lightning Baccarat. Just as XXXtreme Lightning Roulette amped up the win potential of the original game, the XXXtreme version of Lightning Baccarat does the same with more Lightning Cards and multipliers. However, as the game is much more volatile than the original, we prefer to stick with Lightning Baccarat.
Lightning Baccarat is exciting and certainly has our approval, not least because of its potential to dish out massively boosted payouts. Plus, the RTP is only slightly lower than in a game of standard baccarat.
Of course, it’s rare to win the game’s biggest multipliers, and non-multiplier payouts are reduced to even out the potential returns. You also need to consider the cost of the Lightning Fee when playing, but this isn’t enough to discourage us from recommending the game. The extra dose of tension simply adds to the fun!

No. Evolution Gaming has a great reputation in the online gambling space, and there’s no chance they’d still be around if they cheated players. Plus, one of the great things about live games is that you can observe the action unfold in real time.
Lightning Baccarat is played just like any other version of the game: you bet on the Banker hand, Player hand, or that they will tie. You don’t need to worry about the game’s addition of Lightning Cards, because they aren’t chosen until after each round of betting is over.
Playing Lightning Baccarat results in a 20% Lightning Fee on your total bet to fund the big payouts generated by Lightning Cards. This is something you’ll need to consider when placing your bets, as it means you’ll burn through your bankroll quicker than you might have expected.
There’s no one perfect strategy in Lightning Baccarat. Some prefer to focus on Tie bets since it’s the only bet that gives you a chance of scoring a 262,144x multiplier, while others focus on Player or Banker bets due to the higher RTP. You might want to look into systems like the Martingale or Fibonacci, just make sure you consider your bankroll limits.
If we’re talking solely about win potential, the Tie bet takes it with massive potential multipliers of up to 262,144x. That said, Player or Banker wins are more likely, making these safer bets.
You win Lightning Baccarat live in much the same way as you would in any other version of baccarat – by correctly predicting whether the Player or Banker hand will win, or whether they’ll tie. A winning hand in baccarat is the hand that has closest to nine points. If you pick the winning hand and it contains Lightning Cards, you can expect to enjoy lucrative multiplied payouts. The winning hand with the biggest potential payout in Lightning Baccarat is the tie bet, which can award a payout of 262,144x your stake with multipliers. However, as in standard baccarat, this bet comes with a very high house edge and is far less likely to occur than a successful bet on the player or banker. These bets are much less risky, but the payout is subsequently smaller as a result.
Yes! Thanks to the innovative live chat feature, you can interact with the dealer and other players while you play Lightning Baccarat, adding a sociable and immersive element to the online game.
